FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – WINNIPEG ROWING CLUB TEAMS UP WITH PARTICIPACTION COMMUNITY BETTER CHALLENGE JUNE 1
WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Rowing Club has received a grant from the Participaction Community Better Challenge for their June 1, 2019 Open House. According to Participaction, 25 – 30% of Canadians report feeling persistent loneliness or social isolation. In turn, they are on a mission to help Canadians become more regularly physically active and reconnect with each other while doing so.
Getting active boosts the confidence and happiness of individuals, while connecting them to others with common interests, and brings people together. As part of the Community Better Challenge, the Winnipeg Rowing Club (WRC) will be hosting their annual Open House to do just that. This grant will allow for the WRC to showcase the sport of rowing to a wider, more diverse audience in Winnipeg.
Janine Stephens, two-time Olympian who won the silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London as part of the women’s eights rowing team, will be at the Open House teaching those new to the sport how to row, with hopes of sparking interest and love for the sport with more Winnipegers.
