Recreational Rowing

IMG_3702The Recreational program is designed for those athletes with previous rowing experience who are looking to continue rowing without focusing on competition. The program focuses on skill development, general fitness and crew rowing in a friendly, inclusive environment. During the on-water season, the program is split into two groups, the Developmental Program, and Advanced Program, running on alternating nights during the week, but combined as one group during the Saturday morning workout. The workouts for each group’s on-water practices, differ slightly from one another in both technical focus and intensity.

Participants should be in the Learning to Train, Training to Train or Active for Life stage of the Long Term Athlete Development model.

DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRAM

The Developmental Program is designed for athletes who wish to further their rowing skills.  Athletes entering this program must have the basic knowledge acquired through a Learn-to-Row course.  The emphasis of this group is on further skill acquisition and development.

ADVANCED PROGRAM

The Advanced Program is geared towards athletes who already know how to row and are interested in being part of an organized program, but do not have the time, interest, or ability to commit to one of the early morning competitive programs. Athletes entering this program must have a fairly high level of on-water proficiency,  and the desire to participate in higher intensity training sessions.  On top of their own training sessions, athletes in this program will be expected to act as mentors for athletes in the developmental program, volunteering to assist during the Tuesday & Thursday practice times.  Competitive opportunities1 may be available for individuals in this group who wish to compete.
