WINNIPEG ROWING CLUB CAPTURES TWO WINS AT FIRST REGATTA OF RACING SEASON

Lwt Quad Regina Sprints

It was an extremely windy day but rowers boldly challenged the unfavourable conditions on Wascana lake at the 38th Western Canada Sprints Regatta, hosted by Regina.

Winnipeg Rowing Club sent a team of athletes to compete in junior, open and master categories, winning first place in two events:

  • Master Men’s Single – Andrew Lamont
  • Lightweight Women’s Quad – Tracy Taylor, Brandi Smith, Hanika Nakagawa, Emily Lennox

Notable second place finishes in Regina included:

  • Lightweight Women’s Double – Tracy Taylor, Brandi Smith
  • Open Women’s Double – Tracy Taylor, Brandi Smith
  • Master Men’s Double – Andrew Lamont, Satoru Nakagawa
  • Master Men’s Quad – Eric Johnstone, Ryan Desilets, Tracy Kowal, Rob Dansereau
  • Open Men’s Single – Riley MacCharles
  • Junior Men’s Single – Josh Ilse

“Our athletes did a tremendous job,” says WRC Head Coach Steven Taylor, who oversaw the Winnipeg team in Regina. “It was a great kick-off to the 2015 rowing season.”
