For the second time in three years, Winnipeg Rowing Club’s Andrew Lamont has won gold on the Charles River in Boston at the Head of the Charles Regatta. Rowing in the Masters Men’s 8+ event under Kennebecasis Rowing Club, the crew complete the 3 mile course with a new course record for the event. They edged out 2012 champions from Molesey Rowing Club in Great Britain by only 3 seconds. All members of this year’s crew were former Canadian National Team rowers and included multiple World and Olympic Champions, including WRC alum and current Kenora Rowing Club member Darren Barber.
Other Winnipeg connections at the Head of the Charles included Claudia Blandford who’s Western University crew finished 4th in the Championship Women’s 4+, as well as World Champion and Paralympic rower Meghan Montgomery who was coaching the Shawinigan school’s Youth Women’s 8+ boat.
