Winnipeg Rowers Qualify Boats for 2012 Olympics

Three Canadian boats, with Winnipeg rowers in the crews, qualified for the 2012 London Olympics at this year Rowing World Championships. Janine Hason, a members of the Women’s 8+ won a silver medal and helped the boat lock up an Olympic birth. This is the second year in a row the Women’s 8+ has finished just behind the US crew at the Worlds and will be one of the favorites going into next year’s Olympics.

Kevin Kowalyk, who’s rowing in his first year with the Canadian National Team, had an impressive race to win the B final of the Men’s 4- and finish 7th overall at the World Championships. The top 11 boats earned Olympic births.

In the LTDA 4+ Meghan Montgomery and crew won the silver medal and qualified for the Paralympics.
