Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) has announced the final crew list for the 2011 World Rowing Championships to be held in Bled, Slovenia, August 28 to September 4, 2011. Many of the crews have a strong Winnipeg connection with three current WRC members, two WRC alumni and one Winnipeg coach.
Coming off a second place finish at the World Cup 3 event, Winnipeg Rowing Club’s Janine Hanson is rowing in the Women’s 8+. Defending World Champion Meghan Montgomery continues to be a veteran in the LTA4+ (Paralympic category) and WRC’s Kevin Kowalyk will make his World Rowing Champ debut in the Men’s 4-.
WRC alumni Emily Cameron will race in the Women’s 2x and Morgan Jarvis in the Lwt Men’s 2-.
Jeff Powel, former World Champion rower and 2004 Olympian, is part of the coaching staff with the national women’s program.
The World Championships serve as the key qualification regatta for the 2012 Olympic Games. A full list of team members can be found here.
